Swiss Pass or not?

I have planned a 4-day visit at Switzerland from Geneva to Bern then Zurich.

I checked the train fare that is relatively lower than the 4-day swiss pass (even include one Swiss Saver) because there has additional charges on the tickets even I book it with Swiss Pass (around USD12/person).

My questions are:

1. Is it worth to buy the Swiss Pass or I can just buy the tickets at the train station?
2. Can I walk around Geneva, Bern and Zurich without taking public transportation?

Your Q1
I prefer not to use the pass if it is more expensive than buying tickets trip by trip. reasons:

1. Your have only four days in swiss so you do not need that much flexibility of the pass.
2. Buying ticket from auto vending machine is easy. You can use english. You can pay by cash or credit card. It guides you step by step.
3. Some private railways does not accept pass. e.g. some mountain train.

But in the other hand, the pass may enable you to take some cruise free of charge or at a discount but you need to check.

your Q2
Yes you can walk. These cities are rather small (I mean their old city). Suggest you also spend some time at Luzern.

Also suggest you to go to Montreux (about 1-2 hours from Geneva). There is a very beautiful lake-side Chillon castle ;.

1. This question is difficult to answer because you have not specified your detailed routing, so we cannot know how many times you will jump on a train. By the way, if you are not going in the busy season, buying tickets in the stations is workable, but it may take you some times because the local train always have a long queue, while using the Swiss Pass you do not need to search for the ticketing office and queue up.
2. This one is easier. No, you cannot walk around all the cities you mentioned except Bern, since both Geneva and Zurich are large city. They have trains anyway.

i vote the swiss pass. there are few reasons:

1.it is convinent to buy the pass in hk, but if you choice to buy tickets when u arrive, u gonna spend much more time when everytime u leave.

2. the pass gives u flexibility, it allows u to take train unliminted time, what if u want to visit more places than u think before? u may spend more $ than planned, right?

if the pass is not much more expesive than tickets, i think it is gd to buy pass!! anyway, that was my own experience, hope my opinion can help u!! wish u hv a nice trip, becoz switzerland is the best country i have been to
