expand the left hand side:

6x + 24 - 4x + 12 = x + 19

bring all the x to left side, numbers to right side

6x - 4x - x = 19 - 24 - 12
x = -17

6(x + 4) - 4(x - 3) = x + 19
6*x + 6*4 - 4*x + 4*3 = x + 19
6x + 24 - 4x + 12 = x + 19
6x - 4x - x = -24 + 19 - 12
x = -17

6(x + 4) - 4(x - 3) = x + 19
6x + 24 - 4x + 12 = x + 19
2x + 36 = x + 19
2x - x + 36 = x - x + 19
x + 36 = 19
x = 19 - 36
x = - 17

6x + 24 - 4x + 12 = x + 19
2x + 36 = x + 19
x = - 17

x= -17

Multiply all the brackets out...
6x + 24 -4x +12 = x+19

This is because
1) the multiplication goes into the brackets....
2) and minus signs outside the brackets reverse the sign inside the brackets

Add it all up...

2x + 36 = x + 19

Take the x's together, and the numbers together...

My way of remembering or explaining this is....take values through the fairy gates of the equals sign!! Fairy gates change the sign....so the x on the right becomes minus x on the left. The 36 on the left becomes minus 36 on the right:-

2x - x = 19 - 36
x=-17
