MOLE Problem

The formula of hydrated magnesium sulphate crystals is MgSO4.xH2O. When 3.80 g of the hydrated crystals are heated, 2.00 g of anhydrous magnesium sulphate are produced. What is the value of x?
(Relative atomic masses: H=1.0, O=16.0, Mg=24.0, S=32.0)

點解個anhydrous magnesium sulphate 出黎的MOLE 會等於xH2O的MOLE ? 唔係佢地加埋等於未HEAT的 MgSO4.xH2O的MOLE 咩 ?

MgSO4.xH2O --> MgSO4 + xH2O

no. of mole of 2 g anhydrous MgSO4 = 2 / (24+32+16X4) = 0.01667
由方程式可知 1 mole MgSO4.xH2O 產生 1 mole MgSO4 ,所以原來的MgSO4.xH2O也是0.01667 mole。

水的含量為 3.8 - 2 = 1.8 g
水的mole 數 = 1.8 / ( 1X2+16) = 0.1
x = 0.1/0.01667 = 6
