An unmarked thermometer is put in melting ice , 10oC water and 40oC water and the lengths of the liquid column are 1(1) , 1(2) and 1(3) respectively .Which of the following is correct?

A.1(3)=4*1(2)+1(1)
B.1(3)=4*1(2)
C.1(3)=4*1(2)-3*1(1)

C is correct..
but why not B?

the mark of unmarked thermometer is not zero cm when it is in melting ice ...
let the mark of unmarked thermometer is A cm(where A isn't equal to zero!)when it is in melting ice..and let the mark will be rise Bcm when it rise 1*c
so melting ice is A cm
10oC water is (A+10B) cm
40oC water is(A+40B)cm
A.4*1(2)+1(1)=4A+40B+A=5A+40B isn't equal to 1(3)
B.4*1(2)=4(A+10B)=4A+40B isn't equal to 1(3) again
C.4*1(2)-3*1(1)=4(A+10B)-3(A)=A+40B is equal to 1(3)
so there just c is correct
