Chemistry (Nitrogen)

Physical properties:
1. Nitrogen has a melting point of -210C and boiling point of -196C.
2. Nitrogen is a colourless gas.
3. Nitrogen is an odourless gas.
Chemical properties:
1. Nitrogen reacts with hydrogen to form ammonia in the presence of iron powder as the catalyst. Heating and high pressure are required. (Haber process)
2. Nitrogen reacts with oxygen to form nitrogen monoxide and then to nitrogen dioxide when lightning.
3. Putting a piece of burning magnesium into a jar of nitrogen can produce magnesium nitride (a yellow solid).
