Suspect you mean question to read , not as written, but as :-
1 / (x - 1) + 4 / (4x - 4) = 2
4x - 4 + 4 (x - 1) = 2 (x - 1)(4x - 4)
8x - 8 = 2 (4x² - 8x + 4)
8x - 8 = 8x² - 16x + 8
x - 1 = x² - 2x + 1
x² - 3x + 2 = 0
(x - 2)(x - 1) = 0
x = 2 , x = 1

PS
Remember brackets !!!

Presentation is erroneous. might desire to be shown as :- a million / ( x - a million ) + 4 / ( 4x - 4 ) = 2 a million / ( x - a million ) + 4 / [ 4 ( x - a million ) ] = 2 a million / ( x - a million ) + a million / [ ( x - a million ) ] = 2 2 / ( x - a million ) = 2 2 = 2 x - 2 4 = 2x x = 2

1/x-1 + 4/4x-4 = 2
1/ x-1 + 1/x-1 = 2
2/ x-1 =2
x-1 = 1
x =2

1/x-1 + 4/4x-4= 2
1/x-1 + 1/x-1 =2 ( cancelling r from numerator and denominator)
.: 2/ x-1 = 2 ( adding the fractions)
.:1/x-1=1 ( cancelling 2 from both sides)
.:x-1 = 1 (cross multiplying)
.:x = 1 +1 ( taking -1 onthe RHS)
.: x = 2

LCD = 4x.
Hence: 4 - 4x + 4 - 16x = 2

Simplify:
8 - 20x = 2
so: 6 = 20x

Divide both sides by 20:

x = 6/20 = 3/10

You really must improve your understanding of maths to do better than this. they are just puzzles, games. They cost nothing. They need you to think to be able to solve them.

Make them a hobby and spend one half hour each day in solving problems in your text. Next week increase that to one hour. You MUST do it. Start now,.

1/(x - 1) + 4/(4x - 4) = 2
(4/4)[1/(x - 1)] + 4/(4x - 4) = 2
4/(4x - 4) + 4/(4x - 4) = 2
(4 + 4)/(4x - 4) = 2
8/(4x - 4) = 2
8 = 2(4x - 4)
8 = 8x - 8
8x = 8 + 8
8x = 16
x = 16/8
x = 2
2008-06-06 8:00 am
1/( x-1) + 4/(4x-4) = 2

1/(x-1) + 4/4(x-1) = 2

1/(x-1) + 1/(x-1) = 2

(1+1)/(x-1) = 2

2/(x-1) =2

2= 2( x-1)

2= 2x-2

4= 2x

x= 4/2 =2

r u sure u wrote this equation right?

the answer is -3x

if the equation is really this--> 1/(x-1)+4/(4x-4)=
than the answer is 5x
(i think)

add the integers to the left side

1/x + 4/4x=7 4/4x is the same as 1/x

(1/x + 1/x=7)x multiply by x to get it out of the denominator
1+1=7x add and divide by 7
x=2/7
2008-06-06 7:47 am
1/x-1 + 4/4(x-1)=2

*4(x-1) 4+1=8(x-1)

5=8x-8 8x=13 x=13/8
