Vaccine 疫苗 is a preparation of a weakened or killed PATHOGEN 病原體 (anything that can make you sick/cause diseases), or of a portion of the pathogenic structure. Examples of pathogens include bacteria 細菌, viruses 病毒, fungi 真菌, and even proteins 蛋白質. Vaccination aims at stimulating an artificial primary immune response 免疫反應 against a SPECIFIC type of antigen 抗原. This helps prevent infectious diseases 傳染病 such as tuberculosis 結核病.

Bacterin is a suspension of killed or weakened BACTERIA USED AS A VACCINE.

In other words, bacterin is the special term referring to a vaccine which uses bacteria.
