They are both German folk literature collectors and editors. They were born in a family while their father was an officer for the a prince in Germany . Both of them studied law in the University of Marburg, and both worked in the Kassel Library. Then they became professors of the Gottingen University. In 1841 they became Associates for the Grimm Academy of Science.
During these days they edited the “Children’s and Household Tales”（Last edition was published in 1857 with 216 tales）. Among all these tales “Cinderella”, “Snow White”, “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Valiant Little Tailor”, etc are renowned tales which have already become popular books for the children all over the world.
In addition, the Grimm brothers started to collect the German folk legends from 1808, and finally published two Volumes of “German Legends”, which contained 585 legends. Between 1819 and 1837, they have also compiled the book “German Grammar”. Then in 1848 they also finished the edition of “German Language History” and the first 4 volumes of “German Dictionary” in 1852. Their work in language and linguistic placed a foundation for the development of German linguistics studies.
