-15x +8= -15x-7; x=?

I've been taught just to add the opposite integer times x of the number multiplied by the variable on one side to the other side, but in this case there would be no x, so is it just trial and error with a graph?... Wait a minute....is the problem impossible to solve?

there is no solution

(unless you can get 8 to equal -7)

-15x + 8 = -15x - 7
-15x + 15x = -8 - 7
0 = -15
(no solution)

There is maybe a mistake somewhere. The equality is false. There is no point in seeking a value of x that satisfies a false statement.

To see this, let minus fifteen x be simply represented by ? and we have

? + 8 = ? - 7.

Removing the question mark from both sides will not change the balance (or imbalance), and we get

+8 = -7

which is false in our ordinary number system. (I presume that you are not working with a finite set of equivalence classes modulo a base, or you would have asked your question differently).

-15x+15x=-7-8
0=-15 FALSE

-15x+15x=-7-8
x=-15
