the egg of hearts our would-be selves, yet unseen.....
would-be selves, yet unseen = something inside our mind / soul / heart that we do not know now
=In our inner self there is still something undeveloped, even though we do not realize it yet.

doesnt seems to make any sense
It maybe:
all kids hold an egg in their soul, the egg of our hearts
would-be selves, yet unseen......
