1. The switch is to select between [ac voltage](AC), [dc voltage](DC) and [ground](GND) (i.e. setting the input at zero potential).2. To display a good trace on the CRO, the carefulness must be exxercised in selecting a sutiable time-base.
To reduce error, interference of the input signal must be avoided, e.g. do not place the input signal wires near power lines.
