MRS. MOTT
Danny Lee and Ben Green worked in a bank. They were good friends.
On Friday Danny said, ”I’m not very happy. On Wednesday I broke a cup. On Thursday I lost my watch. I liked it very much. I’m so unlucky. Am I going to find my watch?”
“Go and see Mrs. Mott,” said Ben. “She’s a fourtune-teller. She knows everything.”
On Saturday at three o’clock, Danny visited Mrs. Mott. She looked into a big glass ball.
“Aha!” she said. “You’re going to find some money in the park this afternoon.”
“Am I going to find my watch?” asked Danny.
“Yes, but it’s in a dark, dark place…” said Mrs. Mott. ”And I can see an old friend. You’re going to meet this old friend again.”
Danny went to the park. He found a red purse beside the fountain. There was a lot of money in the purse.
“Mrs. Mott was right!” said Danny. He looked inside the purse for a name and an address. He found two cinema tickets. There was no name or address.
“I’m going to take this purse to the police station ,”he thought.
Danny walked into the police station. “I’ve found a purse,” he said.
The policeman wrote everything in a large book. He wrote down Danny’s name and address, and the address and telephone number of the bank.
“I found some money,” thought Danny,” but I didn’t meet an old friend. Am I going to find my watch?”
