Polynomial Function

f(x)= x^3-4x^2+2x+4

Find a rational zero of the polynomial function and use it to find all the zeros of the function.

(Plz try your best to show steps....i'm so confused about this question...)

呢個都係一個幾 common 既問題方式

1. 首先要 guess 一個答案
要點係睇最尾既常數項 [ 即 4 ]
4 既因數有 1, 2 ,4
咁我地要用 Factor thm 去試 -4, -2, -1, 1, 2, 4 呢 6個數

當中 f(2) = 0
即 (x – 2) 為 factor

2. 長除
x^3 – 4x^2 + 2x + 4 除 (x-2)

得出
x^3 – 4x^2 + 2x + 4 = (x-2) (x^2 – 2x – 2)

3. 再解 2 次方程
x^2 – 2x – 2 = (x – 1 – sqrt(3) ) (x – 1 + sqrt(3) )

咁攪掂
x^3 – 4x^2 + 2x + 4 = (x-2) (x – 1 – sqrt(3) ) (x – 1 + sqrt(3) )

root 係 2, 1+ sqrt(3), 1- sqrt(3)

可試試將所有係數轉為整數 [成條式倍大 ]

SOLUTION

By inspection

f(2)=2^3-4(2)^2+2(2)+4=8-16+4+4=0

So (x-2) is a factor of f(x)

f(x)=(x-2)(x^2-2x-2)

Consider x^2-2x-2

The roots are

(2+sqrt(4+8))/2 or (2-sqrt(4+8))/2
=(2+sqrt(12))/2 or (2-sqrt(12))/2
=1+sqrt(3) or 1-sqrt(3)

So the zeros of the function are 2, 1+sqrt(3) and 1-sqrt(3)

下面個位是對的。你估不到的話可以用定理決定所有可能因子。然後再逐個試。定理如下

不過這條明明見到就不需要啦。

就我所知中四只會出首項係數是1的題目。所以問得的根都是整數

至於步驟2﹐我強烈建議你用待定係數法﹐因為快太多太多了。長除法是中二用的...........
