First, it is given that BM:MC = 1:2, which follows that BM:BC = 1:3
i.e. BM: AD = 1:3

Since triangle BMG is similar to triangle ADG,
Area of triangle ADG = 9 cm^2

And from the similarity of the two triangles, we have BG:GD = 1:3 too.
Hence, area of ABG = 3 cm^2

Therefore area of the parallelogram is (9 + 3)*2 = 24 cm^2
