As to your last question, my suggestion is, you must first fix the position of figures 1,7 and 4 as you have suggested, such as:

The figures 1 to 7 are arranged in progressive order. If 1 is on the extreme left, 7 is on the extreme right, and 4 is in the middle, then where are the others with relation to the ones on the extreme left and right, and the one in the middle?

The answer should be" 2 is the figure next to the one on the extreme left, 3 is the figure immediately before the one in the middle. 5 is the figure immediately after the one in the middle and 6 is the figure immediately before the one on the extreme right."
