If you are not a Canadian citizen then I suggest you go to a private school. Since you will be paying international student fee at public school, which is about the same as private schools. In public schools the quality is not very good, in Hong Kong's terms Canadian public schools is considered Band 3 and private schools are Band 1 and 2.
When I first went to Toronto I studied in public school then I changed to Catholtic school then I changed to private school. I am an Canadian so I do not need to pay when I was in public school and catholic school then why am I willing to pay over 10,000C$ a year because it is much better. The subjects are very innovative, one teacher teaches around 10 students and my smallest class had only 4 students.
anyone can study at public schools and catholtic schools but private schools requires interview and enterance exam.
Some public schools and catholic schools have metal detectors at the enterence and have securty guards at the enterance.
