Why is "human food" so bad for dogs.?

I often read posts on here which say feeding human food to dogs is really bad and reacently someone said that no good dog owner would do this as though it were some kind of crime agains canines.

Well last night for dinner I had
Chicken
Rice
Veg

2 of my dogs had (kibble ingredients)
Chicken
Rice
Veg

1 dog had (home cooked as kibble is no good for him)
Chicken
Pasta (not rice)
Veg

So who's eating what are my dogs eating human food or am I eating dog food?

And do you think what people should really be doing is giving proper, fact based infomation like "some foods which humans can eat shouldn't be given to dogs as it is toxic to them so be careful with what you feed your dog" rather than creating myths like "human food is bad for dogs"?
更新1:

Thanks for the info and links about the foods not to give which I have found particularly helpful. Silent_k, I too looked at barf but decided it isn't for me (not that it isn't right) one of my problems is that chicken, which is intensivly reared (I only use free range) can contain salmonella and cooking will kill it. And what about other meats? With this in mind I decided to home cook for the dog I don't feed kibble to. I may be wrong in my assumptions but this where I stand at the moment.

更新2:

Unfortunatly Purina Dog Food wouldn't be any good what so ever for the dog I home cook for. And just where is the sugar in Chicken, Wholewheat pasta and fresh veg?

更新3:

lillardlane, are you on the Purina payroll? If not you should be!

Most 'human' food is far superior for the dog's health than any of the brands of kibble that you will find at the grocer's.
However, there are many food items that dogs metabolize differently than humans do, so it is easier to just say, "No people food" than to try to remember what they really shouldn't have..

Dogs Shouldn't Have:
Onions (in any form)
Added salt (most prepared foods are salted)
Nitrates, which is in most processed meats
Mono-sodium glutamate, which is in SO many of our food items.
Chocolate, or candy of any kind.
Raisins or grapes ( cause kidney damage)
Fruit seeds/pits, and most tree nuts are harmful.
Turkey fat/skin can be devastating, causing pancreas disease.
No cooked bones..
No corn or soy (found in most dog foods)
No fresh milk products, at all..
Nothing containing caffeine, such as coffee, cola or tea.
Nothing with excess fat, and ONLY low fat cheese
Easy on the organ meats (liver, etc) and easy on the cabbages and tomatoes.

SO, if one can remember all the "dont's" then you can create a healthy dog diet from 'human' food items.
I give my dogs small amounts of safe 'human' food, daily, and feed a wholesome kibble

It's not bad for dogs. But your dogs may be missing out on nutrients they need because they need the foods you mentioned, in proportion for a dog rather than in smaller human versions.
If you stick to whole foods (no gravies or sauces or seasoned stocks, meats or pre-prepared stuff with additives) and feed the bigger portion the chicken (skinless and boneless) and the rest either rice or sweet potato, then add some things to the diet, your dogs would be on a great diet. Just get a good home cooking mentor for dog needs and get the diet approved by your Vet.
If you feed meat, don't season it like you do yours. Don't leave the bones or skin in. When you eat eggs, rinse the shells and then let them dry and crush them to a fine powder. A coffee grinder will do that in a few seconds. Then sprinkle this in their food a few times a week, mixed in the meal.
You could also use Vet approved - made for humans- Fish Oil Capsules with DHA and EPA- Omega 3 Fatty Acids. My dogs eat the capsules like a treat- I just put the capsule in their food.
I would sprinkle a bit of Brewer's Yeast on top and stir that in. Then I'd add a bit of plain lowfat yogurt with has lots of beneficial bacteria in it (like Activia)- just a few tablespoonfulls a few times a week. It's great for their digestion.
Onion powder, garlic powder are also bad for dogs. Chetco's list of things not to feed is great.
Get a good mentor for balancing your dog's diet. When the food scare happened last year and part of the year before, and all those brands of foods were recalled for containing contaminants in sub-standard products added to their foods- and I don't think it was ever cleared up what all was causing illness, I fed mine a home cooked menu which they thrived on, but it was hard for me to keep up with, having three larger sized dogs. So I went back to my non-recalled kibble and add the fish oil cap, occasional Brewer's Yeast, Activia and feed whole foods- meats- usually chicken that is skinless and boneless.
What you are eating is good, but you and your dogs eating these foods in the same proportions would not be good.

I always laugh at 'human food' like it's different to dog food!!

meat, fish, veg, eggs all human and dog foods!!

you are correct SOME things we can eat can poison a dog - chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic etc but not many.

EDIT to bunya nuts - grapes are toxic to dogs - I used to feed them too - but now I don't risk it.

Its probably true since most humans eat so poorly! If people all ate well then people food would be fine for dogs. ( altouhg some things we eat are poisenous) So were not EXACTLY the same. But I actually found natual desserts for my dogs today at the dog heath food store near me and for "dessert" they got to split doggie carrot cake and a blueberry cobbler.... its smelled so good I wanted to eat it! I could have too there was nothing in it a human couldnt eat.

Proably another "negative" aspect of dogs eating "people" food is the thought of them being fed from the table and starting to beg. No one wants to compete with animals (literally) for their food.

I think people are starting to become more aware of whole food for dogs especially after the canned food scare when animals were getting sick and people were afraid to feed their animals. Also Oprah did a segment on what she fed her dogs. They had a chef cook them rice and lamb and more... fancy... lol mine are happy to eat chicken and carrots off paper plates... but they love their new doggies desserts!

You answered your own question, very well, I might add. I think this hype is generated by the dog food companies.

I think if you properly research what foods are okay for your animal to consume, then you should be okay letting them eat your leftovers, years ago that's what people used to do.

Kibble and commerical pet food is bad for our pets anyway, that's why I've been looking into a raw food diet. Been having problems understanding it though

dog food is the best food for dogs... my dogs eats human food too but we just gave them some pork bone.. because my mom said that what we tasted is diff to them.., they have diff taste bud... ex: if we taste the food is salty then for dog is 10x salty or even more.... so human food is not good for dogs or pets...

human food is bad for dog because
it has too much fat!

I don't believe all human food is bad for dogs. I think dogs can be fed human food as long as it's done with moderation and you make sure that it is healthy and safe foods. So many of the foods we eat are high in sugar, fat and processed and that's not good for us or our dogs. If you avoid those types and feed healthy foods, I think it's perfectly o.k.

Purina Dry Dog Food is the best dog food to feed your dogs. It is scientifically balanced and the dog gets a perfect meal with all the vitamins it needs. Human food has sugar in it which rots your teeth. Why do you think dentists are so rich and stay in business? If you were a Diabetic you would know that just about any food that we humans like, well, it has sugar in it! Maybe to eat perfectly, we should all go eat a bowl of Purina Dog Chow! Even an orange is laded with sugar! And Gatorade has sugar! And brown bread has sugar too! Purina Dog Chow is best!

i feed my dog a balanced meal of kibble from the vet, raw chicken necks, meaty bones to help the teeth and as a treat in summer she gets frozen grapes.

Frozen grapes are the only 'human' food I give.
I just dont want to risk it since I know onions and chocolate are bad for them but my dog does best on what I give her so why change?

human food are bad for dogs because it's oily and “unhealthy”for the dogs
