reaction1: 1.5g of Mg + 100cm^3 of 1M HCl

reaction2: .5g of Mg + 100cm^3 of 1M H2SO4

A.the Mg react completely in reaction1
B. the H2SO4 react completely in reaction 2
C.the initial rate of reaction1 and reaction 2 are same
D.the initial rate of reaction1 is smaller than that of reaction 2

which is correct?

the answer is D.
A is wrong because magnesium is in excess.
B is wrong because sulphuric acid is in excess.
C is wrong because rate of reaction 1 is slower than rate of
reaction 2. since the concentration of hydrogen ion is greater
in reaction 2.

【reaction1: [Mg+2HCl→H2+MgCl2]】
No. of moles of Mg=1.5/24.3=0.06172mol(excess)
No. of moles of HCl=01(1)=0.1 mol(limited)
【reaction2: [Mg+H2SO4→H2+MgSO4]】
No. of moles of Mg=5/24.3=0.20576mol(excess)
No. of moles of H2SO4=01(1)=0.1 mol(limited)

A is wrong→no. of moles of Mg is in excess and HCl is limited.

B is wrong→no. of moles of Mg is in excess and H2SO4 is limited.

C is wrong→Although both HCl and H2SO4 is defined as strong acid, but the bascity of HCl s monobasic only whether the bascithy of H2SO4 is dibasic. The no. of Hydrogen ion of H2SO4 more than HCl.(H2SO4 more acidic)
The reaction of H2SO4 is faster than HCl(colourless bubbles is evolved faster)

D is true→The rate of reaction1 slower than reaction2. the rate of this chemical reaction according to
(i)Strong acid(HCl,HNO3,H2SO4) or Weak acid(except strong acid)
(ii)The bascity of acid/number of hydrogen ions of acid
[monobasic acid(less acidic)、dibasic acid、tribasic acid(more acidic) ]
