i work in a chemical laboratory and know the apperance of
some common metals. potassium and sodium are stored in
the paraffin oil. they are silvery rod structure.
calcium is in granule form. magnesium is in ribbon form.
copper is brown foil.
if you want to test what the metal is . the accurate method is
to do chemical tests--qualitative analysis.
if the metal is dull . you can use sand paper to clean the
metal.
