A control procedure must be established on claiming, approval and authorisation on cash payments with supporting documents, bills, invoices etc. And, these have to be recorded on a timly basis and properly accounted for in correct account and to the ledger ultimately. Cash received must be signed by the receipient and properly recorded in the petty cash book or records. Physical count of cash must be carried out randomly by someone independently and not the petty cashier with custodian function to confirm the physical cash must equal to the balance as shown in the petty cash book. This is an issue of internal control of the petty cash system.
