Money exchange in Bangkok?

I am from Hong Kong. I am arriving in Bangkok coming Friday after normal office hours. Given my arrival time, is it possible for me to exchange money (hong kong dollars to thai baht) in the city of Bangkok after 5pm on a Friday? (I suppose banks in Bangkok close at 5 pm)

What about money exchange counters at the Bangkok Airport? Do they close at 5 pm too?

You can exchange money at the airport when you arrive.

Get some cash to last you for a couple of days. Then you can get more at other exchanges at just about anywhere in Bangkok. There are plenty of exchanges everywhere.

Best method is to use ATMs. Much more convenient.

Cheers

The airpo rt exchange counters are open 24hrs. You need not worry on arrival. The street money exchange booths close about 6pm, so see your luck. Anyway, you can find exchange booths open even on weekends in Bangkok.

Money exchange counters at the airport are open 24 hours. But the rate is not that good. So exchange a little amount there. In the city, exchange counters operated by some banks are open till 6.00 pm. Also there are money changers who operate till late. There is one at the ground floor of Baiyoke tower, who gives a better rate than banks.

It would probably be better to change your money into Thai Baht in Bangkok rather than LAX because, amongst other reasons, there are two Thai Baht exchange rates (onshore and offshore). If you change outside Thailand you get hit with the offshore rate which is much worse than the onshore rate that you'll be able to get in Thailand from any bank - including the bank booths at the airport.

No problem at the airport at any time. If you are exchanging a lot of money however, go to a place called Super Rich between Chit Lom BTS and Pratunam pier. They are consistently lower than ALL other banks and sometimes even beat the official rate! Plus it is a cool experience...very interesting characters!

you can exchange at the airport 24 hours (but rate would be not so good rate). but if you wanna get best rate, go to the shop name "Super Rich". It is oppostie to Central World. want more Thailand info? try this website. G'luck

You can change your money over at the airport. I have arrived at that airport at all sorts of times during the night and have always found the bank money changers open.

Using an ATM works too! Have some small bills available to pay for your taxi ride.

(Oh yeah, even at 0400 in the morning there was a place open to change your Thai baht over.)

P.S. The rate you get at the airport will be about the same you get in town! The rates are set daily, each bank in Thailand will have about the same rate for that SAME DAY! Where you would usually get a lesser rate is from a hotel or from a store! When you compare rates from banks you have to compare the rate you get from a bank for that particular day. Since the rate changes every day, the following day could be a little higher or a little lower - but usually not by much!
Good luck.

I have not been to Bangkok but as a travel agent, the currency exchanges at the airport are usually open 24 hours (Europe and US). These days it is much simpler to find an ATM and withdraw cash that way, if you bank allows you to do it for a reasonable fee, since you would be paying a fee at the currency exchange anyway. Otherwise, the hotel front desk can do it but also for a fee, usually fairly high.
