My 2 yr old son needs a flotation device for the pool...he loves to be in the pool but i constanly have to hold him, i want him to be more freeir in the pool..he has a lot of confidence in the water!! can u recommended one? i live in florida so i am always at the pool...I saw the vest kind that has flotation devices all around it but i do not think that would work as he does not know enough to hold his head up while he is wearing it??

they have these suits that go on like a jumpsuit. like shorts for boys and a reg one piece for girls and the top of the suit has the needed floaty stuff to hold them up and you can be hands free. I got one for my son but to make him know that he wasnt going to sink without me holding him was a feat because they are used to you holding them so you have to work their hands off of you to show them they are fine..

For our son- we used a lifevest. It had a sort of pillow in the back that kept his head up. I think we found it at Walmart. It was 11 years ago- but we noticed last year that they still sold them and want to pick one up for our baby.

We did the lifevest in conjunction with swim lessons- and he learned to swim. Important to note: our son has autism and would not go near the water until we introduced the lifevest. As well, I was his first swim instructor since he refused the classes we paid for.

I don't like the floaty things they sit in. One topple and they are in- and I watched this with my nephew. Very scary.

I was told these things are not safe for kids. Because they get a false sense of security that they can swim. So if they are ever near water without it, they run right in before they realize they don't have them on. And this happened to my nephew. Luckily my sis in law had started him on swim classes so he didn't fall straight to the bottom of the pool.

Personally, I'd get your child in swim classes. He's not too young. My son started at 18 months. And at 4 is swimming free style. I can sit by the side of the pool and relax while he's swimming. It's so nice!

In my mind, you can create a flotation device, it can save your son and let him play all time in the pool

Mine sits in a little mobile thing, where he puts his legs through and sits up, and it has toys in front of him to keep him occupied.. He can't fall out of it, so its very safe.. A lifejacket type thing isn't all that safe til they are around 6 or so.
