Medical General Practitioners in Hong Kong play an important role in the treatment of illness and promotion of health of the community. In order to have a smooth running of the Clinic, Clinic Assistants need relevant knowledge and skills in order to assist the Medical General Practitioners effectively manage their busy schedule.
The Foundation Certificate course for Clinic Assistants in Clinic Operation aims to provide learners the basic knowledge and skills in health care and to prepare them in taking on a supportive role in assisting doctors in the operation of the Clinic. This Course is jointly offered by HKU SPACE and Hospital Authority Institute of Health Care (IHC). IHC, established in 1998, is an extended training arm of HA aiming to promote and facilitate professional development of the health care practitioners in Hong Kong through continuing education and training.

On the completion of the Course, the learner will be able to
Describe basic features of diseases commonly seen in a medical clinic
Apply principles of infection control in preventing spread of disease infection
Follow strictly the rules and regulations in assisting doctors to dispense and administer medication
Observe principles of occupational health and safety in preventing injuries
Assist the doctor in providing basic care to patients at the clinic
Discuss the importance in providing psychological supports to patients and their family in clinic settings
Observe confidentiality and provide privacy to patients at all time
Effectively assist doctors in the smooth operation of the clinic
