2. Write formulas for ( a ) a compound with one calcium atom and two
fluorine atoms and ( b ) a compound with two aluminum atoms and three
sulfur atoms .

3. Why do most elements tend to form compounds ?

4. Think Critically : The label on a box of washing soda states that it
contains Na2 CO3 . Name the elemants in this compound . In what ratio are
they present ?

1. the properties of elements do not change.
but the properties of compound is different from that of
its elements.
2. (a) CaF2
(b) Al2S3
3. elements tend to form compound becuase compound is
usually more stable than element.
4. sodium , carbon and oxygen.
the ratio is 2: 1:3
