just look at what .365 means
.365=.3+.06+.005
recall that .3 means 3/10
and .06 means 6/100
and .005 means 5/1000
so .365=3/10+6/100+5/1000
we need a common denominator, which here, will be 1000
so multiply 3 and 10 by 100 to get 300/1000
then multiply 6 and 100 by 10 to get 60/1000
then add:
300/1000+60/1000+5/1000
now add terms in numerators (300+60+5=365)
and throw that over the denominatorl
so .365=365/1000
now reduce it:
365=5*73
1000=5*200
so 365/1000=73/200

First change to a percentage by multiplying by 100

36.5 percent - which means the same as 36.5/100

Get rid of the decimal point by multiplying by 10, giving

365/1000

Now you have a fraction, which you have to reduce;

73/200

if you read the decimal out loud what would you say? (365 thousandths)

the fraction is as easy as 365/1000

if you need to simplify it pull out a common factor
let's go with 5 to start
so the fraction is now 73/200
and there you go
2008-04-19 12:58 am
0.365 x 1000/1000
= 365/1000
= 73/200
