Yes, there are loads of other ways including - crossover cable, parallel, serial and wireless communication.

Assuming that you don't have dial-up modem either, and you only need to communicate with one another computer, you need a crossed cable (or firewire/IEE1394/iLink cable if you have firewire port on both) and plugging it into the network of the each computer.
