以一架747為例,在跑道上以最大馬力前進及爬升時每一個引擎既耗油量可達每小時差不多約一萬公斤,747有四個引擎,所以乘以4。但係當架飛機飛到高空三萬多尺高空巡航時,耗油量便會減低至每一個引擎每小時約二千至三千公斤。影響飛機耗油量既基本因素主要是重量和高度,其次係選擇速度和飛機形態等阻力因素。
