A Mexican restaurant in US refuses to accept Mexican currency?

I went to a Mexican restaurant
It is owned by Mexicans, they serve Mexican food and the waiters even speak Spanish.
The restaurant atmosphere is also very similar to Mexico
However when I pay the Bill they refuse to accept Mexican currency.
Why did they do this?
Can they be sued? If so, under what law?

Hum, the restaurant is IN the US, right?
When you go to a Japanese restaurant in the US, do you pay in yen? So everytime you try ethnic cuisine, do you get the appropriate currency according to the type of restaurant? Silly me, I thought that the common practice was to pay in the LEGAL, local currency. In the United States, I pay US dollars; in Canada, Canadian dollars; in Hong Kong, HKD; etc. etc.

Sure, as long as you sue them in pesos.

Almost all U.S. businesses do not accept other countries currency. I live in Cali in a small Hispanic town and NONE of them take Mexican Money. Next time try to get some American Dollars. You could sue for this, but I'd really like to meet the Lawyer that would take it on.

They can accept whatever currency they choose in ADDITION to the currency which is STANDARD in the country they are located in. Therefore, in US, US currency, however, if they CHOOSE to accept PECOS, that is up to them. But since most people in US only have US currency, that is why they only accept US currency. No they cannot be sued........Please learn to follow the rules, quit creating upheaval.

Do you think a restaurant in Mexico with English speaking waitresses serving American style food would accept dollars?

Oh wait...

No lawsuit.

LOL Perhaps this is because this is AMERICA and not Mexico.

I don't think Mexican restaurants are types of "underground railroad". There is no point in comparing the underground railroad with the Mexican experience. In fact the same thing happens in certain chinese restaurants; you might be offered a menu and then you are expected to just point at the # because they do not speak English. So this is not something exclusive to illegal Mexicans. I believe is something exclusive to people who can't speak English. Also, for an illegal immigrant to get a citizenship, they have to go trhough such an extense process that it might take them many many years. So I think people work on that industry for a very short period of time because of the low wages and poor labor conditions.
