Is China a true Republic?

The United Kingdom is called a Kingdom but then it doesn't have a King.... There's a Queen but the Prime minister is mainly in charge.
So even though the name of china is " Peoples Republic of China" is it a true republic at all?

By the strict definition of "Republic", then it is.

USA is also a Republic.

The difference between two is that USA allow everyone to vote. But only those in electoral college choose the President. Congress is voted by the popular votes. China on the other hand, leader is "elected" by a group of standing committee made up by 13 people voted in by the party.

So, the reference of "election" is much smaller in China than US. But it still fits the definition of "Republic".

Others might not agree. That is fine. But it is the DEFINITION. Ignorance is NOT bliss.

The People's Republic of China is only a good sounding name picked by Mao Zedong when it was first established. Of course that was the utopian vision of the Communists to have a "People's Republic". In the end there was nothing but an authoritarian state with dictators in power.

But remember there are still two Chinas out there right now -- at least in name. One is the People's Republic of China on the mainland, and the Republic of China on Taiwan. I would say the more genuine "Republic" is the Republic of China since they are a democratic state.

Republic is just a calling and not necessary a republic. USA is a republic but does not put the word republic inside it. The same context applies in the opposite manner. China is not a fully a republic country and its just a name to the ideology of the Communist Party, which is also used in North Korea and Vietnam.
