How do I do the equation x^2 = 2x?

As in solving the equation for x? If so you can do the following: we need to find a value for which x^2 = 2x, you know that x^2 = x*x, so you can re-write the equation like this x*x = 2x. Now there is a factor of x on both sides so we can divide both sides by x. The equation now becomes x = 2. This is our answer.

We check by substituting x back into the original equation by 2^2 = 4, 2*2 = 4. The left hand side = right hand side, therefore x = 2 is a solution.

X^2=2X
so: X^2-2X=0
X(X-2)=0
so X=0 or X-2=0

it means X=0 or X=2

X=2

You can tell by looking at the question that 0 is an answer. Substitute 0 for x and you can find out for yourself.

Now for the second value of x. The equation is of second degree i.e. has at least one term to the power 2.

x^2=2x

x^2=x*x

So, x*x=2x

Divide both sides by x, and you get x=2.
