Day is a generic word, simply tells us the time.
Date is a specific word, it tells you the date for a specific reason

1. When people say their last day in the company is xxxx, they should use last day.

2. If we want to use the word date in the same situation, we should say it like this :

The date I am working in this company is XXXX.

Hope my explanation is clear. If not, please tell.

For the explanation of the DATE, I made some typo, please see the below correction :

The date that I will be leaving this company is XXXX.

I think that
1) the last day is 30 April, 2008
which means yesterday.
It would be much more correct than to say
the last date is 30 April, 2008.

通常會講the last day is 30 April, 2008,

但the last date is 30 April, 2008都ok既,

不過對某d人黎講哩句係錯既...

the last day多數都係指一d人工作既最後一天,

姐係做埋果日就要退休啦...

因此用the last date會有d怪...最後既日期=.=

所以最好用番the last day...
