Cannot format, reinstall XP or detect hard drive, HELP ~?

It seems I downloaded some spyware by mistake and it infected my computer. I tried to format my computer by using window XP disk, there is partition problem in the beginning that there is not enough space to install the XP, then it went worst and telling me it cannot detect the hard drive. At the same time it corrupted my flash drive that it cannot be detected or formatted anymore. It seems it will corrupt any hard drive that's connected to it. It happened on my Presario V6000 Compaq laptop. Anything I can do now?

Try this. It will erase all of your files, but assuming your hard drive isn't failing you should be able to get your computer working again this way.

Put in your XP install disc. When you have the option to go into Recovery Console, hit R to do that. When you're in the Recovery Console, type the following:

format C: /fs:ntfs

Then hit enter. This will format your hard drive. It's going to take a while, but it zeroes out your hard drive (meaning all the patterns of 1s and 0s are converted to just 0s, creating a blank disk) and formats it as NTFS.

When it's done type exit and hit enter. Your computer will reboot. Use the XP install disc to install Windows like you normally would.

can your bios detect the hard drive if it does set your 1st boot device to cd rom. Insert your windows xp disc and reboot and press any key to boot from cd when instructed to do so. After installation files are installed it will show you your hard drive and any partions. Delete all partions and reformat to NTSF.
Machine will restart and install a fresh copy of windows.
NOTE all files will be deleted. Don't forget to reset bios to boot from hard drive when done.

1.) spyware would not cause this sort of problem. a virus, or move likely a worm, will cause this.

2.) Go into your BIOS and see if you can still see it from there. If not then the harddrive could actually be dead. If you have heard any odd sounds (like abnormal humming, clicking...ect) lately this is could be more likely.

3.) do not connect that harddrive to another computer unless you are POSITIVE that they have a quality, up to date, antivirus program and a back-up of their harddrive.

4.) you could try a "live-cd" from ubuntu that has been modified with a anti-virus program pre-installed onto it.

you need to convert your hard disk drive to usb hard disk by using a usb box then connect it to anther PC and make a format to it.
or you could try to disconnect it and reconnect it or you should check the bios menu and make the settings default
