Mary deposits $1600 at a bank. The interest is compounded half-yearly and an interest of $81 will be accrued after 1 year. Find the interest rate. (Please show detailed steps. Thank you.

Let the interest be y%Then,
1600 * ( 1+ y% )^2 = 1600 + 81
( 1+ y% )^2 = 1681 / 1600
So, 1 + y% = 41/40
y% = 0.025
y = 2.5
Thus, the interest is 2.5%
