The speed of a transverse wave on a string is 450 m/s, while the wavelength is 0.18 m. The amplitude of the wave is 2.0 mm. How much time is required for a particle of the string to move through a total distance of 1.0 km?

The frequency of the wave = 450/0.18 Hz
hence, period = 0.18/450 s = 4 x 10^-4 s

In one cycle (period), a particle moves through a distance of 4 x 2/1000 m = 0.008 m
The time required to move a distance of 1000 m is
= (1000/0.008) x 4 x 10^-4 s
= 50 s
