called back for second pap smear even when everything is ok?

In february i went for an annual at a new ob-gyn. They did a pap and he said they'd call if anything was unusual.
i got a letter from them asking me to call them about 3 weeks later.
I called and they said they need to do another pap in 6 months. i asked if anything was wrong with the first one and they said no, he just wants to do it every 6 months instead of once a year. she made me an appointment in june, which is only 3 months after my last one.
i felt that this was odd to ask me to do a second one when there was nothing wrong with the first one.
later my husband called them because he was worried also and the lady told him that everything was fine but they needed a second one to "compare".
Now I don’t know if they’re trying to make money of off me or if they aren’t telling me something. Also if I go for another one I’ll likely have to pay for it myself because insurance won’t pay for a second one if there’s nothing the matter with the first.

I just called them and asked for a copy of the result. They sounded surprised and said i have to signa release and the doctor has to approve it. Then i can have it. I'll see what the report says and if i need another test i'll go elsewhere. I just don't like that they are not forthright at all.

You are entitled by law, as a patient, to a copy of the pap smear results everytime you went for a checkup. Call the lab or your obgyn that you want a copy of every pap smear tests that you have undergone. You can either go pick them up or have them mailed to you. They should give them to you for free, or for a nominal copying charge.
To maximize profits, pap smear facilities often hire as few people as they can get away with. Pap smear technicians are often overworked. Mistakes do happen from time to time. Sometimes the samples got ruined or mixed up. Sometimes they looked at the cells samples and they were not sure if they are precancerous or not. So having copies of your test results will answer a lot of your questions.

call them and tell them if there is nothing wrong with the first one you wont be able to get the second one. tell them you dont have the money to pay for that out of your pocket and your insurance wont cover the second one.
then if something is wrong they will tell you the truth or if they are just doing it for no reason they will tell you forget it (possibly)
give it a try.

You might just have abnormal cells that just appeared, and they want to see if anything it going to come of them or if there going to change within a 3 month period. But its kinda weird that there not telling you why they want to do another one so soon, maybe you should just get one done by another doctor.

sounds like you might have HPV, it is a very common virus that causes genital warts and cervical cancer.
