x = [ - b ± √ (b ² - 4 a c ) ] / 2 a
x = [ 11 ± √ (121 - 96 ) ] / 4
x = [ 11 ± √ (25 ) ] / 4
x = [ 11 ± 5 ] / 4
x = 4 , x = 6 / 4
x = 4 , x = 3 / 2

Plug a=2, b=-11 and c=12 into the quadratic formula.

2x^2-11x+12=0
this is equal to
(2x-3)(x-4) = 0
taking each of the left factors as equal to zero,
2x=3 = 0 hence x = 3/2
x-4 = 0 hence x = 4

2x^2 – 11x + 12 = 0

a=2,b=-11,c=12
let z=b^2-4ac=25

x=[-b+sqrt(z)]/2a x=[-b-sqrt(z)]/2a

x=4 or 1.5

2x^2 - 11x + 12 = 0
(2x - 3)(x - 4) = 0

2x - 3 = 0
2x = 3
x = 3/2
x = 1 1/2 (1.5)

x - 4 = 0
x = 4

∴ x = 1 1/2 (1.5) , 4
