How about is a polite way of suggesting a method to other people / proposing something to other people.

E.g.

- How about taking the umbrella out before we get out of the door - in this sentense you do not ask someone to take out the umbrella, you just politely suggesting this idea

- How about having another cup of coffee before you go home - here you are proposing something to someone, in a polite way

Note : Always use a gerund, that is verb+ing after How about.
