What is disadvantage of rail transport?

The railway is an effective mode of transport, and it is environment-friendly too, for it emits lower amout of greenhouse gas than cars for moving around the same number of people.
The disadvantages:
Railway networks are expensive to build. The process of building the mass structure has a higher risk of industrial accidents.
It is not as user-friendly to disabled and old people as cars, as one has to walk up and down the railway stations to catch a train.
It causes noises to those who live near the railway.
