a = (a+70)-(a+30)
= a + 70 - a - 30
= 40

a = (a + 70) - (a + 30)
a = a + 70 - a - 30
a = 40

Answer: a = 40

Proof:
40 = (40 + 70) - (40 + 30)
40 = 110 - (70)
40 = 110 - 70
40 = 40

a = 70 - 30
a = 40

a = (a + 70) - (a + 30)
a = a + 70 - a - 30
a - a + a = 70 - 30
a = 40

First, distribute the negative sign in the second term of the right-hand side:

a=(a+70)-a-30

You can remove the parentheses now since all that's left is addition and subtraction:

a=a+70-a-30

Combine the a and the -a, which cancel out:

a=70-30

Just use basic arithmetic now to get:

a=40

first removal ()
then solve for a
check the answer in the end
a=(a+70)-(a+30)
a=a+70-a-30 ; see a cancel out right side
a=40

a=(a+70)-(a+30)

Everything in the second parenthesis is being subtracted.

Therefore:

a=a+70-a-30

a-a = 0 and 70-30=40, so:

a=40

I hope I helped!

a=a+70+(-a)+(-30)

The a and (-a) cancel. You are left with:

a=70+(-30)

a=40

a= 40
