We just had the Easter holiday last weekend, and I hope everyone had a great time. Apart from the tasty Easter eggs and Easter bunnies, do you know where did Easter come from?

Today, I would like to share with you this book called "British and American Festivities". This book talks about various festivities and their origins, such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas. It also talks about the ones that we don't celebrate in Hong Kong, such as Thanksgiving, May Day, and St. Patrick's day, to name a few.

Easter is celebrated between 22 March to 25 April each year. There are no concrete sources on where the word Easter came from. In the book, it suggests that the origin of the word Easter might come from the pagan goddess of spring, Eostre. Easter baskets, flowers, eggs, and rabbits, are symbols of pagan spring. In a way, Easter is considered to be a celebration of the spring.

This book, British and American Festivities, is a great resource. I highly recommend this book if you would like to learn more about the origins of Easter, as well as other western festivities.
