if that is 3x squared then you need to COMMON FACTORS take out the three and factor from there you would get 3(x2+1) then u just factor that and get 3(x+1)squared

When you factor an expression you are looking for "common factors" that can be found in both parts of the expression.

For example if you have 8x + 8y, the common factor is 8. You can divide both sides by 8. So to factor it you take the 8 out and you get (x+y). But you can't completely take the 8 away, you have to have it in the equation. So you put it outside the expression to express that you must multiply the expression by the common factor to get back to your original expression.
So your expression of 8x+8y also equals 8(x+y). To check your answer multiply it out and see if it matches your original equaiton.

Back to your equation 3x^2 + 3
What is your common factor?
3x^2 and 3 have one number in common . . . 3!
3x^2/3 = 1x^2 ; and 3/3=1

So divide both sides by three and you get your "inside" expression of (x^2 + 1). Again, you must multiply that expression by 3 to get your original expression, so you express that by putting the 3 outside of your expression.

Thus your answer is 3(x^2 + 1)

Multiply it out to get your original expression, if it equals your original expression then you know you have the right answer!
