1. A rectangular living room is tiled with rectangular floorboards of size 12cm by 5cm, each row and column need 200 pieces and 40 picecs respectively.

(A) Find, in cm², the area of each floorboard.

(B) Find, in m², the area of living room.

(a)

The area of each floorboard,

12(5)
=60(cm²)

(b)

The area of living room,

60(200)(40)
=480000(cm²)
=48(m²)

i think happysnoopy94421 's answer has some problem there,

since cm²=cm x cm

100cm=m

m²=100cm x 100cm
=10000cm²

so it should be : (60cm2 X200X40) / 10000
=48(m²)

(A) Find, in cm², the area of each floorboard.

tile area = 12 cm X 5 cm
= 60 cm^2

(B) Find, in m², the area of living room.

number of tiles needed for the room = 200 X 40 = 8000
total area = 8000 X 60 cm^2
= 480000 cm^2
= 48 m^2 (since 100 cm = 1 m, 1 m^2 = 10000 cm^2)
