9x-1 = 4(x+5)?

So far I have brought it down to
9x-1=4x+20
9x-1+1 = 4x+20-20
9x=4x
But now I am stuck I dont know what to do to bring it to x=something. Can someone please explain.
Thanks

9x - 1 = 4x + 20
5x = 21
x = 21/5
x = 4 1/5

When we add or substract polymonials with same degree , actually the cooefficient are added or substracted.Therefore, (1/4 -3/4) x^4 + 7/9 x^3+ ( 3/8 + 5/8) x^2 + (4-4) or -1/2 x^4 + 7/9 x^3 + x^2 , That's the Answer

9x-1 = 4(x+5)
9x-1 = 4x+20
9x-4x = 20+1
5x = 21
x = 21/5
x = 4.2
2008-03-25 12:08 pm
9x - 1 = 4(x + 5)
9x - 1 = 4*x + 4*5
9x - 1 = 4x + 20
9x - 4x = 1 + 20
5x = 21
x = 21/5
x = 4 1/5 (4.2)

9x-1 = 4x+20
9x-4x = 21
5x = 21
x =21/5
x =4.2

9x-1+1 = 4x+20-20 is wrong

You do the same to both sides of the equation: therefore you can't take 1 away from the left and 20 from the right

9x-1=4x+20
9x -1 -4x = 4x +20 -4x
5x -1 = 20
5x -1 +1 = 20 +1
5x = 21
5x /5 = 21 /5
x = 4.2

9x-1=4x+20
9x-4x=20+1 (bringing 4x to the left and taking 1 to the right)
5x=21 (subtracting the left and adding on the right)
x=21/5

9x-1=4x+20
9x-1-4x = 4x+20-4x;
5x-1=20;
5x=21; x=4.2

9x - 1 = 4(x + 5), so

9x - 1 = 4x + 20

Now add 1 to each side:

9x = 4x + 21

Now take 4x from each side:

5x = 21

Now divide each side by 5:

x = 21/5
