Chinese history has been around for so many years as well as the traditional
Holidays.
There are many Chinese traditional holidays but many people have forgotten
the history behind each holiday. Today, I would like to introduce some of the
traditional holidays.
Spring Festival is of the holiday that adult and children enjoyed. Not only the children receive red pockets, the adult can have a chance to get together.
In the myth, it says that “year” is the monster that lives under the sea. In every 365 days, when is Lunar year, the monster will crawl out from the sea and destroy people and lives. Therefore, every year, people will put up a red paper on their door, burn wood, cutting meat, and light up firecrackers to scare off the monster. Therefore, the red paper, the lanterns and eating dumplings have become a tradition for this holiday.
Dragon Boat Festival is to give respect to Poet, Qu Yuan. To avoid Qu Yuan’s body begin eaten by the fishes in the river, people will make some sticky rice wrapped in a bamboo leaves and throw in the river to feed the fishes. The people also began a dragon boat competition to compete one another in hope to find Qu Yuan’s body.
