(x+3)(x+1)=24
x^2+4x+3=24
x^2+4x+3-24=0
x^2+4x-21=0
(x+7)(x-3)=0
x= -7 or 3 ans

(x + 3)(x + 1) = 24
x^2 + 3x + x + 3 - 24 = 0
x^2 + 4x - 21 = 0
(x + 7)(x - 3) = 0

x + 7 = 0
x = -7

x - 3 = 0
x = 3

∴ x = -7 , 3

it is a quadratic equation
x^2+4x+3=24
x^2+4x-21=0
the roots are
root 1 ( -4+(16+84)^0.5)/2=(-4+10)/2=3
root 2 ( -4-(16+84)^0.5)/2=(-4-10)/2= -7

You can check replacing x either by 3 or -7
