12)The difference between the compound interest and simple interest on a certain sum of money for 3 years at 6% p.a. is $140. Find the sum of money.(The compound interest is compounded yearly.)

13)A new machine costs $8000.If th machine depreciates by 10% each year, find the value of the machine at the end of the second year.

14)The value of a boat depreciates on value by 5% each year. If the original price of the boat is $200000, how much is it worth at the end of the third year?

15)The price of a video camera depreciates at 4%, 5% and 6% for three successive years. Find the value of the video camera at the end of the third year if it was originally worth $5000.

16)The value of a machune depreciates each year by 20%. If the value of the machine is $40500 now, what was its value 2 years ago?

Let $x be the principle
x(1+6%)^3-x=140
x(1.191016-1)=140
x=733(correct to 3 sign. fig.)
∴The principle is $733
Sum of money:
733+140=$873
13)
8000X(1-10%)^2
=$6480
14)
200 000X(1-5%)^3
=$171 475
15)
5000X(1-4%)X(1-5%)X(1-6%)
=$4286.4
16)
40500/(1-20%)^2
=$63281.25
