Russia does not want our help.
They commit some serious atrocities against the Chechen population, and certainly don't want anyone witnessing it.

same as i have been saying all along, that many Islamic fundamentalists want to cause havoc, and murder, and it doesn't matter where. London was last target and we find do we not, that many of these terrorists are home grown, have been born, educated here, and yet will place a bomb on a train and bus and kill innocent people. Same as IRA did over years. If we had never heard of Iraq or Afghanistan i still believe these terrorists would have killed and maimed, and the sorry part is i am waiting for another bomb to go off here in my home city, London.

because the chechneyans are not fighting a war of terrorism against civilians, they are fighting a war of independance against the russians, we would help the chechneyan people if we were not already overextended by our commitments to iraq and afghanistan

They are a SEPARATIST group for the most part and they have been fighting the Russian military directly. While there have been a few instances of terrorism at least two were suspected to actually be Russian plots.

Chechnya IS oppressed by the Russians.

russia is doing the same thing saddam hussien did - killing their own people because they tried to uprise - only russia has killed far more and was/is far more brutal about it - note: we have nothing to say about it.

You could be our representative.

We have worked with the Russians to fight terrorism.

It a bit like saying "Why don't you help your worst enemy fight their enemies?"

Because Russia seems to be doing well enough on their own. And, we can't 'help' unless they ask. What would you have us do? An air strike on terrorists in Russia on Russian soil?

Besides, we are helping them, just as they are helping us, with intelligence, identification of funding sources and cutting those off. Fighting terrorism is a WORLD effort. Contrary to what you've heard or think, the U.S. is not alone in this effort by any stretch. Russia may not have agreed with our going into Iraq purely for reasons of self interest, but that doesn't mean that they don't recognize and support our efforts to rid the world of the threat to the world that these Nehanderthals pose.

Come on, you're trying to make a point and just ending up looking silly.
