relative clauses一問..

2008-03-21 10:13 pm
Kate's parents, who live in New Zealand, are both teachers.

I met a friend I hadn't seen for a long time.

點解第2句 a friend後面唔洗加who/whom/that 又唔洗加comma?
點解後面唔洗加who/whom/that 又唔洗加comma?

Kate’s parents, who live in New Zealand, are both teachers.

His parents who live in New Zealand are both teachers.

I met (a friend) I had not seen for a long time.

I met a friend. I hadn’t seen my friend for a long time.
I met a friend (whom/that - 可以省略) I hadn’t seen for a long time.

I met Peter, (whom/that - 不可以省略), I hadn’t seen for a long time.

其實第2句不是不用加who/whom/that,而是將它省略;
This is the boy (whom) I met yesterday.
The watch (which) you gave me keeps good time.
(可以看出I hadn't seen for a long time是限定用法)
