Expand the following:

(w-2)(w+6)(2w-3)

I just keep getting muddled up, any help would be appreciated!

Do the first two terms first.
(w - 2)(w + 6)
= w(w + 6) - 2(w + 6)
= w² + 6w - 2w + 6
= w² + 4w + 6

Now do the rest:
(w² + 4w + 6)(2w-3)
= w²(2w-3) + 4w(2w-3) + 6(2w-3)

Can you take it from there?

You have 2 FOILs going on here. Work on one first, then do the 2nd one afterwards:

(w-2)(w+6)(2w-3)
(w² + 6w - 2w - 12)(2w - 3)
(w² + 4w - 12)(2w - 3)

Now FOIL that.

2w³ - 3w² + 8w² - 12w - 24w + 36
2w³ + 5w² - 36w + 36

(w - 2)(w + 6)(2w - 3)
= (w^2 - 2w + 6w - 12)(2w - 3)
= (w^2 + 4w - 12)(2w - 3)
= 2w^3 + 8w^2 - 24w - 3w^2 - 12w + 36
= 2w^3 + 8w^2 - 3w^2 - 24w - 12w + 36
= 2w^3 + 5w^2 - 36w + 36

(w-2)(w+6)(2w-3)

Do a pair of them first. If it's easier, you can think of it like this due to distributive properties:
(w-2)(w+6) = w(w+6) -2(w+6)
Expand: w² + 6w - 2w - 12 = w² + 4w -12

So, you now have (2w-3)(w² + 4w -12)

Once again, you can think of it like this due to distributive properties:
(2w-3)(w² + 4w -12) = 2w(w² + 4w -12) - 3(w² + 4w -12)
Expand: 2w³+8w²-24w-3w²-12w+36
Group like terms together: 2w³+8w²-3w²-24w-12w+36
Simplify: 2w³+5w²-36w+35

Hope this helps!

if you have trouble either look at the answer in the back of the book or use a scientific calculater to help you have a fair idea.
