how to you open the photos in your computer ? what is the error message ?
did you try to select (V) view and then choose (H) thumbnail in ' my computer ' ?
this should be able to at least showing all the photos in very tiny image.

if view thumbnail is okay, then the problem is really a missing photo viewer/editor.

Adobe Photoshop Element (too big, too heavy)
ACDsee
LView Pro (shareware)
IrfanView (shareware)

and below are all freeware !!
built-in Microsoft photo editor or paintbrush
XnView (freeware!! download here) really small (2.1MB)
StudioLine Photo Basic (freeware!! download here)
